From 2002 to 2015, The Bessemer Gallery, Bessemer I, specialised in affordable fine art, contemporary craft, and gifts, and was based at Sheffield Winter Garden opposite Tudor Square and adjacent to the Millenium Gallery in the heart of Sheffield City Centre.
Addressing the diverse audience that our advantageous position in Sheffield Winter Garden attracted, we stocked a wide variety of contemporary art and craft pieces to suit everyone’s taste, interests and budget, including prints, paintings, textiles, sculpture, fine jewellery, glassware and ceramics.
Rising fixed costs and seasonal underselling means regrettably Bessemer I has been forced to close after twelve and a half years representing, raising awareness, and exhibiting the diverse work of artists, designers & makers from the across the British Isles.
The Bessemer II now continues the work of Bessemer I, whilst also appealing to those seeking a quiet and inspiring space to work, relax and chat in the form of our very own art cafe, The Bessemer II Coffee Shop.
By exhibiting a high quality, diverse range of contemporary art and fine craft sourced from around the British Isles, and operating our own independent coffee shop, we will continue to promote a strong dialogue between artists, designers & makers and their audiences and introduce innovative contemporary art and craft to a broad public and at a range of price points.
As well as sourcing work from across the British Isles, we are committed to supporting local makers, and stock a substantial range of works made here in Sheffield.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our artists, designers, makers, gallery staff, suppliers, technicians, council employees, and most of all the many people who visited and supported the work of Bessemer I during its Winter Garden tenure.
